dead hearts are everywhere.

Dead Hearts -Stars

tights: forever 21

Today it sounded like there was a monsoon going on in Manhattan when I woke up. I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a few hours today for a class, but I left earlier than I had planned because I have a cold and I forgot my memory card for my camera. I sort of gave up on my hair because of the humidity and also because I had to rush after my morning ballet class to get to the Met. Afterwards I got some soup and steamed veggies + tofu from the Chinese place literally next to my dorm. Since then, I've been bumming it and watching Girls. I've needed a day like today, even if I am ill.

I got this dress at a thrift shop. I feel like velvet is very under appreciated, but it holds a soft spot in my heart (literally soft). A bright lip is also a really useful trick to do when you're in a rush. Just swipe it on and go!

Pardon my grumpy face as it was physically and emotionally painful to get out of bed this morning. No matter how much caffeine I cut out and how much I exercise, I still have trouble falling asleep. Not to mention the fact that I have a bit of a cold.

In autumn through early spring, tights are my uniform. I do not own many pairs of pants to I just wear tights in all sorts of patterns and colors, although black is my go-to. Black is also the most flattering for most people.

My makeup today is also very minimal because I thought it would be nice to go fresh faced since I've been doing a lot of smokey eyes and accent lips lately. This look as a whole is very relaxed but still put together.

lust list 001

Blue Velvet -Lana del Rey

I'll admit it--I'm a huge fan of Lana del Rey. I came across her music when she just had her Video Games single out and since then I've been hooked. Her peculiar lyrics, crooning vocals, and saccharine, ephemeral style present her almost as unreal. Now that she's the face of H&M, I can't help but notice the same dreamy, almost Virgin Suicides-esque quality in their collection.

So now I thought would be the perfect time to introduce a new feature on my blog: the lust list. This will be my way of getting some satisfaction out of online window shopping since I can't shop as much as I would really like to.
one. [$34.95] I am so in love with the print on this dress. It's floral without being too girl--it almost offers a nebula-like feel with it's splattering. This is a dress you can dress up or down, without it being boring.

two. [$49.95] Chunky heel, gold zipper, and count me in.These booties are unique without being obnoxious about it. They lend a sixties go-go feel and they would definitely be a very versatile pair of boots for autumn and winter--even early spring.

three. [$14.95] I would wear this belt a lot to cinch my waist. The gold hardware and imitation suede finish make it look a bit more pricey than it actually is.

four. [$59.95] While I wouldn't pay this much for this necklace, I can't help but admire it. It would make a really great statement piece for any outfit.

five. [$34.95] The color of this sweater is absolutely amazing, although I'm not sure I would pay that price. Still, it's made with angora yarn so it must feel divine.

six. [$29.95] I'm a big fan of collared shirts because they look very put together, but an embellished collar with gold hardware? I'm sold.

seven. [$49.95] I wear booties a lot in autumn and winter, so after a while it gets a bit boring. I think these boots would really give a breath of fresh air to my closet. Might I also mention the gold studs.

eight. [$49.95] These pumps are so lush. The oxblood color is very in right now, so that's an added bonus, but I can imagine wearing these for years. The velvety finish is so lovely.

nine. [$34.95] These boots are very different. I love the purplish-burgundy color. They're not too tall either, so they would not be too hard to walk in. Boots like these would also help cheer up my winter shoe collection.

ten. [$19.95] For twenty dollars, this sweater looks nice and chunky. The mint color is very fresh and I think I would get a lot of wear out of it; it's perfect for those chilly days when you just want to stay inside.

eleven. [$49.95] I'm not sure how heavy this coat is, but I thought it was really unique. I like wearing coats that aren't black just to stand a part from the crowd. A whole outfit should include the coat--you shouldn't be dressed nicely and then just throw on a boring jacket. I also really like the idea of winter whites; they're timeless with a modern twist.

If you have been following me for some time, you will have noticed that I am a fan of Alice in Wonderland. I put this outfit together and then after some thought I realized it reminded me of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland--not a bad thing at all.

I hate when all the pieces in my outfit are from the same place (usually Forever 21 and H&M) but this is one of my favorite recent outfits. When you look good you feel good. Sometimes I feel the need to add a bit more color in my life.

I'm your silver lining.

Silver Lining -Rilo Kiley
sweater: forever 21
necklace: anastasia (TJ Maxx)
pants: thrifted

scarf: h&m
shoes: r2
lipstick MAC please me
I feel like I give play-by-play updates of New York City weather every time I post, but here we go again: not only is it sweater weather, but it is also scarf season.

These pants were also thrifted. They're high waisted and they feel very Ann Margret. The floral pattern on the black background makes them suitable for early fall or spring.

I'm trying to make my Mondays more productive. I did get up at 9am because my first class was at 1pm but I got a bunch of my reading done. The hour and a half I have between my classes is when I start to get tired. Three o'clock is not my friend. I'm also trying to cut down the amount of caffeine I consume after three because I've been having trouble falling asleep. I just hate being unproductive, and if that means readjusting my circadian rhythms, so be it.

Over the summer I saw body chains increasing in popularity, and cheap as I am, I went straight to ebay. This one only cost four or five dollars including shipping--just search "gold body chain" on ebay and you're sure to find tons.

I think I might start parting my hair in the middle more often. I don't want to confine myself to my usual side part. This lip color is also one of the lipsticks I bought yesterday. It's a nice change to have a berry lip instead of a typical red or pink. I will definitely wear this one a bunch.

I got these pants for $3 at a thrift store purely because they are comfortable, high waisted, and reminded me of Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face. All a great combination.

Today was a very chill yet fun day. I went with my roommate and some of her friends from home (Hawaii) to get some Hawaiian barbecue. Since barbecue is not the most vegetarian food category, I had some udon noodles and rice, which were both delicious. Later, I went to Duane Reade because I was out of tissues but I got distracted and also bought two lipsticks, including the one I am wearing here. I am absolutely in love with both of them and I can't wait to write reviews on them.

Lip color really adds to a look. When wearing this bright orangey red color I like to keep my eye makeup a little lighter, but a smokey eye could look just as awesome. I really look forward to expanding my lipstick collection.

This is such a comfortable dress but it's also very different from my other dresses. I also wore it for a photo shoot I did with my friend Maria.

Sing Sing Sing -Benny Goodman

Yesterday there was a 1920s themed party on campus so of course I took the opportunity to dress up, since everything is improved by a tenfold when you dress up. I don't have my fringed flapper-like dress with me so I made do with what I brought. I also didn't have a headband so I took this waist-ribbon from another dress that I brought and tied it for a makeshift one. As a whole the night was really fun and of course it was nice to step back in time...if only every night could be like Midnight in Paris.

I don't always wear tight skirts, but when I do good things sometimes happen. I have always shied away from tight skirts because they make me self conscious. However, I took a risk and got this peplum skirt. I wore this while at a vendor's fair on campus and as I bought this awesome necklace one woman asked me what my name is and then said "You are wearing that skirt. You've got a great figure."

It's little comments like these that really make my day. You should always make sure that you are wearing your clothes, and they aren't wearing you. Play up your assets, wear the red lipstick, and have some fun. You won't regret it.

Today I just needed a bright outfit to get me through my last classes of the week. While reading outside I actually got really cold...I think tights season is also upon us. This cardigan makes me happy because 1. stripes and 2. the stripes are all my favorite colors: teal, mustard, and coral.

You can now check out my first vlog for Seventeen in which I talk about joining clubs!
