the chop.

So I took the plunge today and got The Chop, or The Karlie as some are calling it. I have never felt more French.

I was growing a bit tired of my ombré but I really wasn't sure if I wanted to cut my hair super short. This is the shortest I've ever cut my hair, a bit shorter than when I cut it to just above my shoulders right before college. There's something both terrifying and thrilling about cutting your hair short. I was never a girl who cried when she got her hair trimmed an inch or two, though I get nervous sometimes, but I've never really done anything too dramatic to my hair, save for my pre-college ombré and cut. Last summer my hair was the longest it's ever been and now it's the shortest, and I can honestly say that I never felt as confident with my long hair than I do with my short hair. When my hair got to be really long, it became a security blanket. I would hide under my hair, but with short hair I feel as if my bone structure is highlighted better (one thing I haven't always loved), my décolletage isn't covered up, and the nape of my neck is sensually vulnerable to the elements.

Will I keep my hair short for long? I'm not sure--I'm always changing my hair around. But I really do love this new cut. I feel at once both like Thoroughly Modern Millie and a carefree French girl. And after all, as Coco Chanel puts it, "A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life." So here's to a new haircut and a change that has yet to come.

silver spring.

When I'm at home and I have no plans for the day I honestly just wear comfy clothes like these. And after doing struggling through the 30 Day Shred I was not in the mood to wear real clothes so I went straight for these amazing velour sweatpants. If I was actually doing something other than maybe going for a Barnes and Noble run today, then I think the heels make it a cool outfit. I buckled my silver prom shoes over the bottoms of my sweatpants to mix things up a bit. I'm really into sandal heels right now, so hey, at least I got another use out of my prom shoes. My huge Forever 21 earrings added just the right amount of glamour to balance the shoes.

I am officially on spring break so that means having a much larger closet to play around with. Yesterday I watched my favorite movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's, so I could weep over the perfection of Audrey, George Peppard, and everything about the movie. One of my favorite things about Holly Golightly, Audrey's character, is that she is a "glamour girl" but she doesn't try too hard--it's casual but so chic. She looks so marvelous, just in her oversized tuxedo shirt, sleeping mask, and earplugs when she first meets Paul Varjak. There's just something about looking luxurious while you are also comfortable. Silk sleepwear, eye masks, and pretty dressing gowns have such an air of sophistication about them that it inspires me to add some glamorous loungewear into my wardrobe.

I bought this romper over the summer because it reminded me of a pj set. I paired it with my flowy cardigan that reminds me a bit of a dressing gown, and to top it off with some luxury, I threw on one of my grandma's old stoles.

As for my hair, I am very much into above the eyebrow bangs, so I swept my overgrown front bangs to the side. It's going to take me some practice to get the perfect Audrey bouffant, but I did my best to add some volume to my hair. I love the idea of pigtails, especially after finding this photo of Brigitte Bardot and of course seeing Audrey's hair in that perfect final scene in Tiffany's. They are very playful, and I think adding a bit of volume makes them more grown-up.

How do you like to wear loungewear?

the high line.

Today was fantastic because the weather was beautiful and I ventured out of the Morningside Heights bubble. I went to the village with some friends and we wound up at Dos Caminos for lunch and a ton of guacamole. It was so warm out that we eat outside comfortably. I think I really needed some fresh air after being cooped up inside all winter. It makes me so excited for spring. We wandered into an interesting yet very bizarre art gallery and walked the length of the High Line. It was really a day that makes me so grateful and happy that I live in New York.

I dressed pretty comfy because I figured we'd be doing a lot of walking. I love this oversized top I got at H&M. I think it's the perfect transition piece for spring because it's light but still warm enough for a breeze; I think I'll be wearing it a lot. I paired it with my trusty disco pants and Marc Jacobs for Target scarf, and slipped on my comfy Forever 21 brogues for a finishing pop of color. Hopefully the weather will continue to get nicer so I can gradually phase in my spring clothing!

to this day.

This is my outfit from Monday, but because of midterms and stress and life, etc. I have not had the chance to post them yet. I'm starting to wear pants more often and when I saw these pants in H&M I thought they were perfect. The gold studs down the bottom make them really interesting and I like the ankle length cut because full length pants are usually too short for me anyway. I thought I'd do a neutral look so I just wore my sheer button down and my new black flats. I think the pointy toe and patent leather make the shoes very elegant, and the studs update them a bit. I also always think a red lip works best with a neutral outfit.

lust list: relaxing with Rapunzel.

one. [$189.99] Okay HOW much does this dress remind you of Rapunzel? It's got everything--the pink base, the sheer purple overlay, and a stunning silhouette. It's pricey but I think it's very classy and versatile. It would be so perfect for a spring formal or a spring wedding.

two. [$38] What is Rapunzel without her chameleon? This necklace is cutesy without being too sugar sweet. It's simple but different.

three. [$16.95] This little lotus reminded me so much of the flower in Tangled. It's definitely affordable and it's a piece you could easily layer and wear everyday.

four. [$47.47] This bag is so girly but so chic. The color and bow balance out the boxy structure. I think it would make a great spring bag. It's also a nice medium size and it can easily be slung across your body--perfect for shopping sprees when your hands get full.

five. [$37.30] This Paul & Joe primer is definitely a luxury beauty product. It's expensive but just look at it! It would get you a luminous look and it would look stunning on a vanity.

six. [$10.17] These little bobby pins are perfect for keeping flowing locks out of your face in style. I love the little roses and the studs add a little toughness. These are bobby pins you're not going to want to lose!

seven. [$9.99] These flower earrings are so sweet. I love the gold leaf detailing. I would definitely wear them year round. Plus, don't they also remind you of Tangled.

eight. [$5.00] I am OBSESSED with this Brandy Melville ring. Plus, you can't really beat $5 for this beaut. I'm toying around with the idea of splurging on some Brandy and this ring will no doubt make it into my cart.

nine. [$75.99] I am very into lilac at the moment and these shoes are no exception! The chunky heel makes them perfect for every day wear and the color is too perfect for spring. They would add the perfect ounce of sweetness to any spring look.
